TERRABA-SIERPE NATIONAL WETLAND

At the mouths of the Río Grande de Térraba, Costa Rica's largest river, and the Río Sierpe lie the mangroves of the Térraba-Sierpe National Wetland, the largest mangroves in Central America.

In a totally unique setting, surrounded by aerial-rooted trees and shrubs, an excursion through these channels allows you to discover this fascinating ecosystem. You'll have the opportunity to observe a diverse fauna, made up of marine and terrestrial species, some of which are threatened with extinction.

WORLD HERITAGE

Discovered in 1930 by the United Fruit Company, over 300 megalithic spheres bear witness to the existence of pre-Columbian chiefdoms in the Diquís Delta region between 500 and 1500 AD.

These spheres, along with artificial mounds, paved areas and burial sites, are spread over four archaeological sites, including Finca 6. In 2014, these remains were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, underlining their historical and cultural importance.
